THE MISSION

Jennifer Strickland's mission is to expose the ways the media devalues the sanctity of women and realign women and girls with their true beauty and value. Drawing from her experiences as a former professional model, Jennifer inspires others to measure their beauty and worth by more than just the outward appearance.

As a speaker to girls and women as well as boys and men, Jennifer opens up about her painful experiences as a young model in order to shed light on what objectifying girls does to their self-worth. Further, she encourages men to use their voice, strength, and power to help women and girls realign themselves with their God-given beauty and value.

THE REACH

We provide events, resources, and mentoring to women and girls around the world, while specifically offering hope to young women suffering from the effects of eating disorders, poor self-image, drug and alcohol abuse, self-harm, promiscuity, and sexual abuse.

Through Jennifer’s book Girl Perfect, magazine articles, television and radio interviews, and powerful speaking in public and private junior and senior high schools, colleges, churches, retreat centers, and media venues, we are successfully combating the media's unrealistic images of perfection with truth that sets women and girls free to be who God designed them to be.

Since Jennifer's book has been translated into Korean, Portuguese, Polish, and German (coming fall of 2012), our reach is expanding as we are discovering that young women around the world have greater needs for truth about their beauty, worth, and purpose.

THE JOURNEY

This journey began when Jennifer started modeling at only eight years old. At 15, she did her first television commercial, and at 17, she signed with the Nina Blanchard Agency (now FORD Models L.A.). Upon graduating high school, she moved to Europe to work professionally. In the next six years, she appeared in Oil of O'lay commercials, Eddie Bauer catalogues, Vogue, Glamour, and Seventeen, and the legendary modeling agent Nina Blanchard named her the "Face of the '90s".

At the height of her career, Jennifer walked the runway for Giorgio Armani in Milan and represented "Barbie" for the 35th anniversary of the doll. But behind the "perfect image," she begun suffering from an eating disorder, extreme loneliness, drug abuse and the demeaning effects of being valued only for her appearance by photographers and clients. The business had a very negative effect on her self-image and she became suicidal.

At that time, some people in Germany reached out to Jen in a park and invited her to church. As she discovered the love of God and the power of faith to heal her, she committed her life to Christ and left the business for good, knowing that some day she would expose the ugliness behind the "beauty business" in hopes of helping girls find an identity and value that truly lasts. THE NEED

Studies show that:

  • Eating disorders, low self-esteem, and depression are the most common mental health problems of teen girls
  • 1 in 3 girls are sexually abused by the age of 18
  • 1 in 3 teens experience abuse in their dating relationships
  • 3 out of 4 girls are having sex outside of marriage
  • 70% of women looking at fashion magazines report feeling depressed, guilty, and ashamed of their bodies after only a few minutes of viewing
  • The average fashion model is thinner than 98% of American women
  • Over ½ of teen girls say they want to lose weight because of magazine pictures
  • While only 20% of teen girls are overweight, 70% think they need to lose weight
  • 40% of girls start dieting at age 10
  • 80% of American women and girls have disordered eating
  • Over half of American women say their bodies "disgust" them
  • Over 10 million women in the U.S. are facing a life and death battle with an eating disorder

THE WORK

With increasing numbers of women and girls suffering from poor self image, we are devoted to teaching them their real value. By teaching them their value, we teach them to protect their hearts, bodies, minds, and spirits -- and that kind of impact lasts a lot longer than Botox or self-tans or even plastic surgery! It lasts for life!
