Girl Perfect:
Discovering the freedom to be the girl God made

Book Overview

Every girl in the world longs to be accepted for who she is inside and out.  But the world teaches them that to have the acceptance they long for, they must be perfect.  They must have the perfect body, the perfect look, the perfect image … and in search of these unattainable ideals, they secretly long for the perfect dream, the perfect escape, and the perfect freedom to be loved for who God intended them to be.  Our teen girls are literally killing their bodies and souls in search of perfect, which in their world means applause, affirmation and acceptance.  Imprisoned by standards they cannot attain, many of them believe they are not good enough to receive the love and affirmation they so deserve.

From the overflow of her heart, former successful model and academic scholar Jen Strickland writes how she discovered at her very worst that perfect is a treasure we discover in God alone.  Take her hand as she shares her story, leading us down a road of true acceptance … helping us break free from the chains that bind us and experience the precious freedom to be who God made us to be: imperfect girls made whole by Christ’s perfect love.

Felt Need and Book Mission

More intensely than during any time in history, our young women are destroying their bodies and souls striving to be perfect.  The media is inundating our young women with images of bodily perfection – deceiving them into believing that outward beauty equals inner fulfillment.  The obsession with plastic surgery is at its worst.  Eating disorders have never been more rampant.  Self-mutilation, drug and alcohol abuse, sexual promiscuity, depression and suicide are rapidly on the rise among our next generation of girls.  More than ever, our teens are dressing and behaving seductively, imitating the poor “role models” of their age – treating their own bodies like sex objects instead of valued creations of God.  This generation of girls has never been more desperate for the unconditional love of the Father.  And He is longing to set them free from the constrains of the world by filling them with the only perfect love on earth: Jesus Christ.

Girl Perfect is coming when our girls need it most.  It recognizes and sympathizes with the longings of every girl’s heart:  longings to be loved, valued and accepted; longings for the perfect body, the perfect love, the perfect dream for their lives.  By sharing examples from my life as a young woman traveling and modeling around the world, I reveal my own longings for love, peace and freedom … desires that were never filled no matter how many magazines I was in or how much money I was making.  With utter transparency I share how my heart was broken again and again by looking to the wrong things to declare my value.  But most importantly, I share the great discovery of my life – the sacrifice of Christ that transformed me from the inside out, humbling me, healing me and creating in me a heart filled with His perfect love.

These girls need to hear from someone who has been there!   By finally putting a voice to the faces of “perfection” they see in magazines, I can speak both on the world and for the Lord on this issue that has so cruelly invaded their youth.  Through the examples of my own trials and those of the models around me, Girl Perfect will blow the doors off the world’s perception of beauty and perfection, settling the matter once and for all through the power of His Word.  But it will go even further, showing that all our longings can be fulfilled through a relationship with Christ.

The only perfection we can find on earth is God.  And the only way we can break from the world’s demands and experience true freedom is by inviting God’s perfect Son to dwell in us and radiate from us.  This is the truth this generation of girls must grasp in order to save their bodies and souls from the grips of a deceiving world.
